Cat for Adoption
Description
Matchstick Boy - I am a beautiful white male tabby with brown and gray striped tabby markings in patches on my body. I have beautiful light green / pale yellow eyes that look adoringly at you. I am about two to three years old, and have the sweetest, gentlest and calmest personality. I am very easy-going, and get along with everyone.
I was nicknamed "Matchstick Boy" after the sad fairy tale, because I too, like the little Matchstick Girl, desperately wanted a home and someone to love me. I was outside for at least 8 - 9 months that my rescuers were aware of. I was known in the neighbourhood because I would go onto people's porches, and peer through their windows or patio doors. Like Matchstick Girl, I would sit for hours looking pleadingly at them to invite me in and give me a home. I would watch them have supper. I would watch them relax on their soft couches and watch tv. After I got too cold from waiting so long for someone to let me in, I would wander off to try and find a tiny little sheltered corner somewhere to hunker down for some rest. If I was lucky, some kind individuals gave me some food and water. In most cases, I was treated like a dirty intruder, and shooed away.
I did have a home once upon a time, and the memory of what it was like to be warm, have a bed and regular meals, made me keep trying to find a home. Finally, one kind family allowed me to live in their barbecue on their patio. They set up a little bed for me in there, and gave me regular meals. I loved being held and cuddled by this family, and had lots of fun playing and being picked up by the 2 and 5 year old children. The family looked everywhere for my previous owner. They posted ads on the internet, filed a report with the Humane Society. They put a collar on me with a note, but for months, no one ever responded. When it started getting cold outside and still no one came for me, they were worried and brought me inside. I was taken to a foster home, until a permanent home can be found for me.
I am very affectionate and cuddly, and purr away when I get patted. I love being held and enjoy rolling onto my back to have my tummy rubbed. My favourite little bed is the bathroom sink - I feel really secure and safe in there.
I have been examined by a vet and declared a very sweet, great cat. I am have de-wormed, de-fleaed, vaccinated and neutered. I look a lot better now then when I first came in. I was pretty dirty, and had scratches and scabs all over my body - from being beaten up by other cats outside. My ear was sliced in half, but it has healed now, although I will probably always have a scar and no fur growing there. I still have some of the black streaks on my nose from the barbecue, but slowly, as I regain my strength and have more opportunity to groom myself, I am turning into a handsome boy again.
Now that I am inside, I will not have the same fate as the little Matchstick Girl. However, my dream is still to be adopted and finally have the permanent loving home I have been looking for all this time. Will you please give me a chance?
