I'm a little rescue cat with a big story! And I have the honour of being the first cat to be adopted - right from the street! I didn't even need to be posted on the "Adopt Us" section of the website. I was first noticed over 6 months ago - as a small kitten. I was running across the street from a field into the street. Then I heard a noise and got scared, and ran back into the field. A kind lady who feeds homeless kitties notified Hungry and Homeless Cat Rescue about me. That's where my rescuer came into the picture. She started coming to feed me every day for months. She patiently waited, and kept calling for me until I came to eat. She tried to get me to come inside, but I was too scared. After a while, I got very excited when she came to bring me food, and I would come bounding to her when she called. But I was still extremely shy and would not come close to her. In fact, I wouldn't eat until she was a safe distance away. Notices were put out and a report was filed, to see if anyone was missing me, but all to no avail. One day, MANY months later, my rescuer had success in getting me inside. I was not a happy boy initially because I was so terrified. I thrashed around, hissed and growled and voiced my unhappiness. I was taken to the vet. I had lots of fleas and mites, which got treated. I was subsequently neutered as well. The sad news was that I tested positive for FIV. However, the biggest surprise at the vet's, was that I actually had a microchip! Here was proof that I had belonged to someone at one point - when I was just a baby! My former owners were tracked down through the microchip, but sadly they did not want me. :-( Apparently, I had gotten out one day as a young kitten and never came back. My former "owner" moved right after, so I was really homeless as I had nowhere to come back to. Thank goodness my rescuer kept me fed and alive all those months of living outside - since I was just a baby with no home, no family and no previous experience living in the streets. After a few days of being inside, I became soooo affectionate with my rescuer who had brought me home. I went from being a terrified cat who would hiss if you approached me, to a complete suck for affection. I loved being picked up and cuddled and having my tummy rubbed. I slept on my rescuer's bed and wanted to be glued to her. A couple of days later, there was someone interested in adopting me, so the potential adopter came to meet me. However, when she arrived, I got scared again and hid. After seeing my reaction, my rescuer tearfully told the potential adopted that she was not able to part with me - after everything we had been through together for the past months. The potential adopter completely understood, and was very happy that I would have a loving forever home. So that's how I ended up being adopted - right from the street! I went from being a lost homeless kitten that no one wanted - to having two people want to adopt me! :-) I am now a very happy camper. I am now just over a year old. I love to play and have lots of mischievous energy. Thank you rescuer - for saving my life - and for adopting me and giving me a wonderful permanent home. And also for loving me - despite my being FIV+. To all of those reading this, please help us homeless kitties. People may think that we are just "dirty ferals" who can survive outside. No ones knows our history. We all deserve help.....
