Cat for Adoption

Blanche

My name "Blanche" means "white" in French, although I was "grise" (gray) when I came in! I was quite dirty....!! I have had a very stressful past two years, so it's no wonder I was not a sparkling white cat when I was rescued!

I used to have a home as an indoor apartment cat. I was first spotted out in the fields - busy catching and eating bugs to survive. An independent rescuer first spotted me a couple of summers ago and brought me food. The rescuer learned that I used to live in an apartment, but had fallen out from the balcony. However, when my previous owner saw me outside, he pointed me out as being his former cat to some of the neighbours, but was uninterested in returning me home. Some of the neighbours wondered if I had not been pushed or thrown out...?

Being in my middle ages, and having never been outside before, I was pretty scared when I first fell. The kind person who brought me food was certain that I was a feral cat - as I stayed away and was terrified of her. She kept persisting with me and feeding me, and eventually I trusted her and let her pat me. As soon as I was comfortable with her, she got to meet my very affectionate, lovely personality. After I trusted her, I tracked her down, and she was surprised to see me in front of her house the very next day!

I then hung around the streets and ate at a feeding station. The rescuer was worried that I was going to spend the winter outside, so she looked around for a home for me. A neighbour in the area had started feeding me, and the misunderstanding occurred when people in the neighbourhood thought that he had "adopted" me. He hadn't. He fed me sometimes because he felt sorry for me, but did not let me come inside much. He did not want my hair in his house; so only on the extremely cold (minus 20+ days) was I allowed to come in for protection from the elements. The rest of the time, I was outside. I spent most of the time outside on his deck - patiently awaiting him. I loyally waited day and night for him outside, hoping he would come and see me and give me some food. Luckily for me he smoked, so whenever he came outside to do so, I would jump on his lap and miaow in joy. I always hoped that he would bring me inside when he went back in, but he did not. Day and after, night after night, season after season, I spent most of my time outside on that deck - waiting for a home.....

I would go the feeding station and visit with the rescuer from time to time. She and people in the neighbourhood believed I now had a home. The sad truth was that I was still homeless..... I came down with upper respiratory infections last year and developed some sort of mange or skin condition, and lost all my beautiful white fur. In the two years that I spent outside on that deck with those health challenges, no one helped me or took me to the vet. I also got beat up by male cats, so I was terrified of them. As a result, I hiss at most males I meet outside. Because the rescuer and neighbours believed I was an "owned" cat, nothing could be done to help me and they could not intervene. So, I languished outside.... It is truly a miracle that I survived the past two years!

One day, the rescuer heard from other neighbours that the fellow wanted to get rid of me. He told the neighbours that if someone did not pick me up, he was going to throw me in the garbage. When the rescuer heard this, she went to see the fellow who told her that he was moving in a few days and I needed to be gone. So, the rescuer contacted Hungry and Homeless Cat Rescue, who sent a rescuer to collect me right away.

And that's how I ended up here! After two years of extreme difficulty, I finally have a soft bed to sleep in - inside a warm home. The Rescue did not have any foster homes for me, so I am very grateful to the fosters who volunteered to take me on an emergency basis. Because I am in an emergency short-term foster home, I urgently need a permanent home.

I am a sweet loving affectionate lap kitty. I have so much love to give and keep hoping to share it with someone who will finally adopt me permanently.... Someone who will not throw me out of balcony windows and someone who will let me live inside! I give head buts to everyone I meet - to encourage them to become my permanent home. I am very excited and happy to finally be receiving the affection and attention I have missed out on....

I have been cleaned up and am now truly "blanche." The vet estimates that I am 6+ years old, possibly older. I am spayed, vaccinated, de-wormed and de-fleaed. I tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV! I have been declared a healthy girl by the vet and am very affectionate! Please adopt me and keep me off the streets - once and for all..... I accidentally spent more time outside than I ever cared to, and am very grateful to finally be inside. Thank you!
