Cat for Adoption
I was given the name of Keeley - which is an Irish boy's name meaning "handsome or beautiful". That was nice of my rescuers to see through to my beauty and give me this name, as I was in pretty rough shape when I came in: a punctured and blind infected right eye, filthy dirty, matted, covered in fleas, greasy fur, frost-bitten ears, and dangerously thin from starvation.......
I am not able to tell my rescuers how I arrived at their home. When my rescuers were outside on the front porch in the evening (after having been away all weekend) , I marched up towards them - trying to come through the space in the front gate. They had no idea where I came from and how I made my way out to their home in the country in Almonte. I was so happy to see people again after such a long time, that I meowed and rubbed all over their legs - begging them to help me....
They let me into their garage, as they were worried for me because of all the fishers in the area. Once I decided that the garage was a safe spot, they closed the door for me, and I proceeded to sleep for the next few days. I found a cupboard that was filled with old towels and blankets, and that's where I hibernated.... I stumbled out when called, and/or when food/water was being delivered, but the rest of the time, I was passed out in exhaustion....
The rescuers believed that I had a home, and posted ads for me, and filed a found report for me. Sadly, no one responded and came looking for me.... Hungry and Homeless Cat Rescue was contacted to help me, but had no available foster homes. Thanks to the pleas they put out for me, my amazing fosters came to my rescue! Once the foster home was lined up, my rescuers borrowed a carrier from their local vet and took me to the rescuer's vet. I was checked over and had extra blood tests done, because I looked so rough....
The vet determined that I was blind in the eye that was punctured and was not certain how it had been punctured. The eye was also badly infected. My blood work showed that I had early stages of kidney disease, however this can be managed through diet. Thankfully, the other tests showed that I was negative for Feline Leukemia and FIV. The vet has no idea how old I am (because of the rough shape that I was in), however I could be around 6 years old - maybe older. I was previously neutered, which showed that I did have a home at one time.... Once I am stronger and healthier, I will need surgery to have eye removed. For now, the infection is being treated with antibiotics. I was also de-fleaed and de-wormed at the vet's.
My fosters came to pick me up at the vet's. I was kept in the bathroom initially - to give me a safe place to adjust to my new environment. I very much enjoyed this safe hideout, - where all the family members came to give me cuddles and snuggles. Once I was out of the bathroom, then I made a beeline for my fosters room at night, and slept in bed with them. I was so happy to finally feel human affection and love again, that I couldn't get enough. Who knows how long I had been suffering outside before I found my rescuers.....? My rescuers found it interesting that their dogs were suddenly intrigued and wanting to go under the deck starting a few weeks prior.... They are now wondering If I had been hanging around all that time, and getting the courage and energy up to go ask them for help? We will never know.....]
What we do know is that I am a sweet, adorable, cuddly, lovable boy who has had a terrible time of suffering outside. I want nothing more than a safe, loving permanent home to spend the rest of my life in. Please think of adopting me if you would like to help a cat in need, and I will reward you with my purrs and snuggles of gratitude....
P.S. The Rescue will raise funds to cover the cost of my eye surgery, so take note - potential adopters - you will not have to worry about the cost of this!
