Cat for Adoption
Because we were brought in from downtown close to a Mission / Church, we were named the "Mission Family". Our Mother was named "Mama Teresa". We are comprised of St. Seraphina (sister), St. Basil (brother) and St. Jude (another brother).
We have had quite the adventure in our short little lives…. Our adventures all began one day when a fellow walked by and stole two of our siblings from our mother. He saw us kittens outside, and decided to bring two home. However, apparently his wife only wanted one kitten, so he was “throwing” one of us back outside on our own. This was a horrendous thing to do, as we were only 5 to 6 weeks of age. It was minus 20 in early January, and there was a lot of snow on the ground. Thankfully a Hungry and Homeless Cat Rescue volunteer was walking by at that moment, and said that it was too cold for a kitten to survive outside on its own without its family. So, the kitten was handed to the volunteer, and that is how I, St. Seraphina, ended up inside! (No one knows what happened to the sibling I was stolen with - hopefully it was a good permanent home....)
The volunteer asked the fellow where he took us from - to try and reunite our family and bring us all inside. The volunteer got an address, and with that, rescuers tried to bring in our mother and other siblings. Volunteers were able to bring in brothers St. Jude and St. Basil (many days apart), but not our mother. Our mother was scared of all the people and hid - which made it more difficult. The most frustrating part was that she would have easily come in if she had been given a chance to, as she came running to us when her kittens in the carrier cried and called to her.
However, the rescuers were prevented by the property owner from entering or going close to the property she was on. Even the authorities were unable to intervene on the rescuers' behalf. The rescuers tried writing letters, posting posters, but nothing worked. Some of our supporters wanted to hold a protest in front of the property, however for the safety of the other homeless cats in the neighbourhood, rescuers had to abandon trying to bring in our poor Mother - who remains outside to this day.... (What a terrible tragedy for our dear mother - to have had all her kittens stolen from her and to be left outside on her own - still full of milk for her kittens..... She had a chance at coming inside and finding a permanent home, but instead is still outside and likely pregnant again....)
We went to a foster home and then a short while later, had to be moved to another foster home. We had a ton of socialization at our new foster home, as we slept in bed with our fosters. However, we outgrew our foster room there, so we moved back to our original foster home, where our fosters were able to take us back. We had a great big room to play in there, and other cats to play and socialize with. As you can see, in our short little lives, we had a lot of excitement and created a lot of excitement!
It wasn't always easy in the beginning, as we were not weaned yet. We missed our mother's milk and cried a lot. Our tummies were upset and we all had diahrrea - St. Jude had it the worse. We had to be taken to the vet and receive medication and hydration many, many times. Thankfully we turned the corner - thanks to the great care from our fosters.
We are now healthy and ready for permanent homes! We have been de-wormed and de-fleaed and will be vaccinated / spayed / neutered when we are the right age. Ideally, we would be adopted in pairs (if our mother comes in to make the 2nd pair). If not, then the remaining kitten would need to be adopted into a home with another kitten, unless someone wanted to adopt all three of us together....?
We were born in the beginning of December, 2012:
